The gun was designed and made for the ammunition in use at the time which was either black powder or early low pressure smokeless powder and lead shot shells. I have no serial number-year made tables for Baker Gun & Forging made guns but they went out of business in 1920 so the gun is at least ninety two years old. a retail chain store headquartered in Chicago,IL. Louis,MO a wholesale sporting goods dealer or Sears Roebuck & Co. The guns were made for and sold by either the Shapleigh Hardware Company of St. According to my information the name was used on hammerless doubles. Guns with the name BLACK BEAUTY were made by either Baker Gun & Forging (as you say) or the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1930+). A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major gun maker (and before 1940) for and was sold by a wholesale sporting goods dealer, a retail chain store or an independent seller (your local hardware store) who chose the name to go on the gun. You have what I call a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun.
